Allstar Lions tamed by the Men

Tonight saw just two games in the DBMT group stages, indicative of the fact that the season is now drawing to an end. As far as the football itself though is concerned, there’s still plenty to play for, even if in the case of Crestwood v Oakham, just pride. Unbeaten in their last six, and having a record of seven wins from twelve against their opponents, Crestwood went into the game as favourites.

However, it was Oakham who edged it in a nine-goal thriller. Although it doesn’t lift them from the foot of the group, it definitely gives them a confidence boost as they head into their quarter-final clash with Men United. Although on the losing team, Rhys Harper’s solitary goal means he is now Crestwood’s all-time leading scorer.

Oakham 5  Goals: Dave Patton (2), Jack Knight, Ben Shaw, Luke Cooper   MOTM: Luke Cooper

Crestwood Town FC 4 Rhys Harper, Callum Archer, Ritchie Jones, Alex Perry   MOTM: Alex Perry

In the other game, a little more was at stake than just pride, as both teams were in with a chance of winning the group. With Lions having scored in their last 33 games and Men United having not gone goalless for 47, anything but a 0-0 was on the cards. As it turned out, Men United ran out convincing winners 5-1, therefore taking the group in style. They are the only team to have a 100% going into the knock-out stage.

By the way, if you like the statistics then why not check out the designated site HERE. Run by Dan Spear, it really is amazing. Or should we say Dan is amazing, he’s the one that comes up with the stuff.
