In appropriate weather, last night the semi-finals of The Summer Cup were played out. As it happened, the favourites in each game (based on group positions) went through, but both were made to work hard by very determined opponents. Crestwood were leading at the break, but with Matt Nicholls and Sam Ralley on top form, they edged it in the end.
Allstar Lions 8 Matt Nicholls (4), Sam Ralley (3), Aaron Lloyd MOTM: Sam Ralley
Crestwood Town FC 4 Stephen Jones (2), Ben Perry, OG MOTM: Alex Perry
Just as Crestwood pushed Lions all the way, so did United FC in their game with Brandhall & Quinton FC. With the game evenly balanced at 3-3, a red card thus giving Brandhall a man-advantage, ensured that they ran out eventual winners. In a carbon-copy of the other fixture, there was also a four and a three on the scoresheet, this time it was Adam Chester and Dave Wall that got the honours.
Brandhall & Quinton FC 7 Adam Chester (4), Dave Wall (3) MOTM: Adam Chester
United FC 3 Arron Worrall, Nick Harrold, OG MOTM: Rob Bradley
With both teams having completed their cup adventures, Tipton Family Church FC and Church On The Rock FC played out a friendly last night. The latter is the most-improved team in SICM Sevens without doubt, and it’s just a matter of time before they get their first win. They came close last night as they went 2-0 up and had another effort cleared off the line before TFC clawed their way back into it.
Tipton Family Church FC 7 Simon Westwood (2), Robin Davies, Lee Harris, Scott Morton, Jez Jeavons, Craig Donaldson MOTM: Simon Westwood
Church On The Rock FC 5 Stephen Goreham (2), George Adams, Jordan Pratt, OG MOTM: Stephen Goreham
On the subject of friendlies, with the league beginning in September (plus the final of The Summer Cup) we will be open to friendlies during August. There will be a thread on the team officials’ page so make sure you organise by the deadline each week. In addition, if you’re considering entering a team, this is a great opportunity to test the water.
