A HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR THE TOP TWO (SICM Sevens)

Although only a short time really, it seems like an eternity since we were last playing. It was certainly good to get back on the pitch tonight, and the main question prior to kick off was which teams would show that they hadn’t been affected by the excesses of the past couple of weeks.

With the Lions in action it was an opportunity for them to extend their grip on retaining the title. Taking on Kingsbourne, who are always a tough nut to crack, it was a hard game to get back into after the break. Kingsbourne have only ever recorded one win against their opponents though.

As it turned out they are still on the first rung of the ladder, as the Lions took the points, although they were made to work hard for their 3-0 victory. It was a lot closer than the result suggests though, as Kingsbourne pushed them all the way.

Allstar Lions  3   Peter Madge (2), Danny Bell   MOTM: Dan Watts

Kingsbourne  0     MOTM: Luke Ellis

Chasing the Lions in second place is Crestwood, and with an easier game on paper, they were looking to at least keep up the pressure. Based on the last ten games in all competitions, Crestwood is actually the in-form team, with the best record.

Taking on bottom club Tipton Family Church FC the result reflected this, but only just. Coming from behind twice and scoring a late winner, they edged it 4-3.

Crestwood Town FC  4    Josh Owen (2), Rhys Harper (2)   MOTM: Joe Colley

Tipton Family Church FC  3   Robin Davies, Jez Jeavons, Simon Westwood   MOTM: Andy Lewis

With the other game being in the DBMT, United FC looked to go to the head of Group A. But first they had to get past Church On The Rock, who were looking for revenge after conceding late goals to narrowly lose in their first battle in the competition.

However, on this occasion it was all one-way traffic, as United completed a pretty comprehensive victory to go to the top of the table, with COTR dropping in the opposite direction. Well done to Matthew Dudley for his hat-trick and Arron Worrall who went one better.

United FC  12   Arron Worrall (4), Matthew Dudley (3), Adam Kennedy (2), Aaron Bullen (2), Tom Smith   MOTM: Adam Kennedy

Church On The Rock FC  1   Jordan Pratt    MOTM: Jordan Pratt
