Sadly we had to say goodbye at the end of February to Valerie Babic who retired after working with us for fourteen years. The staff and patients loved Val and we all miss her very much. At the end of last month we also said goodbye to Thelma Dube (an auxiliary nurse trained in our Nursing School) who also started working with us in 2002. Thelma moved to a government position.
Fortunately with the Nursing School closing Yvonne and I have managed to continue without Val. This is due to the long term commitment of Cathy Middleton (RN) and Jacqui Smith (AN), and the new commitment from Gundula Koetnig (RN) to help in the clinics part-time.
As a team we have decided that since the Nursing School has closed we will focus on expanding the services we offer through the clinics. Our goal is to add a second visiting point to the Kiepersol farming area. In so we doing we move closer to where some of the people live and work. Koeltehof Pack House has offered us facilities to use once a week. They are situated about six kilometres from the farm we currently visit. This means that this group of workers will not have to walk so far to reach the mobile clinic on Wednesdays.
