There is an informal settlement on the outskirts of White River called Phumlani, where much poverty occurs. Although the government mobile clinic visits twice a month, the needs are still many. In conjunction with the established Village Committee, we are looking at visiting that area once a week with our mobile clinic. Jacqui Smith and Cathy Middleton has already started doing community health work in this area, and has established relationships with the Department of Social Services, and the Village Committee.
Yvonne and I still take turns doing a clinic at Londolozi Private Game Reserve. We are group of registered nurses and doctors who take turns to do run a clinic there on a Saturday mornings. As remuneration, after the clinic we have the privilege to go on a game drive on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. In the chilly winter months this takes courage to venture out on an open game vehicle, but most of the time it is fun and very pleasant. Last month we had an incredible leopard siting!
