THE JUG OF ICE TEA THAT WASN’T

On Sunday morning I took the service at Tipton Family Church. It’s my home fellowship and one that I planted, along with my wife, last century. Sounds a long time time doesn’t it when you put it like that!

I like using illustrations when preaching, I think it helps people to remember more easily the point you’re making.

On one of my recent travels, I stayed in a hotel where a jug of orange juice and a jug of ice tea were out every mealtime. I used to love the latter, having discovered it in the days when I spent time in the USA.

However, after a while I had so much of it that I went off it. So, seeing it every day at the hotel I gave it a wide berth. Until the last day I decided to have a change from orange juice as I was saturated with that by then.

As soon as I tasted it I realised it wasn’t ice tea after all but the sweetest drink I’d ever tasted. I don’t know what it was, but it was great. I couldn’t get enough.

It reminded me of Psalm 34:8 ‘Taste and see that the Lord us good’. People say, church is boring, this God stuff is irrelevant in my life. But how do you know unless you try it? In fact you may be pleasantly surprised. Give it a go!
