Chapter 10 Dip Coating

The wet chemical sol-gel processing paves the way to the versatility and ease of liquid film deposition techniques for a variety of inorganic and hybrid coating materials. Liquid film deposition [1] in general involves the application of a liquid precursor film on a substrate which then is converted to the desired coating material in a subsequent post-treatment step. Spin Coating

The coating parameters included viscosity, withdrawal rate, spin speed, and immersion time. The adequacy of the predicted model was verified by coefficients of determination and lack-of-fit test. Model accuracy was verified by comparing predicted values with experimental results. The significant interaction effects on the coating thickness were three-way interaction among withdrawal rate, spin speed, and immersion time and two-way interactions between viscosity and withdrawal rate, viscosity and spin speed, and viscosity and immersion time. Cube plot for coating thickness reveals a trend of increasing coating thickness towards high levels of viscosity, withdrawal rate, and immersion time and lower level of spin speed. Fluoropolymer dispersion coating is commonly used for nonstick coating applications that require friction-reducing property and electrical insulation, adhere to biosafety standards, and display chemical resistance and wear resistance [ 1 ].

Dip coating is a simple old way of depositing onto a substrate, especially small slabs and cylinders, a uniform thin film of liquid for solidification into a coating. The basic flow is steady, and in it film thickness is set by the competition among viscous force, capillary (surface tension) force and gravity.

We apologize for the inconvenience...

Dip coating is an industrial coating process which is used, for example, to manufacture bulk products such as coated fabrics and condoms and specialised coatings for example in the biomedical field. Dip coating is also commonly used in academic research, where many chemical and nano material engineering research projects use the dip coating technique to create thin-film coatings. The earliest dip-coated products may have been candles.

Dip-coating for fibrous materials: mechanism, methods and applications

Dip coating is a simple and effective technique which is commonly used in manufacturing across a wide range of different industries. Within research and development, it has become an important coating method for the fabrication of thin films using a purpose-built dip coater.

Dip-coating

Liquid Film Coating pp Cite as. Spin coating is a batch process in which a liquid film is spread by centrifugal force onto a rotating substrate. A typical spin-coating system for microelectronic wafers is shown in Fig. Solidified films are obtained when the spin-coated liquid contains polymers or colloids in a volatile solvent. Solvent evaporation is greatly accelerated by the air flow induced by high spinning speeds; thus, the application, coating and drying of a film can be accomplished in less than a minute.
